Bekal Fort is located in Bekal, Kasaragod district. Bekal Fort is the largest and most beautiful fort in Kerala. Located on the coast of the Arabian Sea, this fort was built in the 17th century by the Keladi Naiks. Built for military purposes, this fort is spread over an area of more than 40 acres.
Bekal Fort has a history that has passed through the hands of many rulers over the centuries. Hyder Ali captured the fort from the Keladi Naiks and later became the military base of Tipu Sultan. After Tipu Sultan’s death in 1799, the fort came into the possession of the British East India Company. Today, this fort is under the protection of the Archaeological Department. The beautiful lawns and paths around the fort are more attractive to visitors. Many films have been shot here due to its beautiful natural scenery. The winding entrance gates of the fort, the observation tower, and the secret tunnels built for defense are the specialties of the fort. From the observation tower here, you can see beautiful views of the sea and the surrounding areas.
The beautiful Bekal Fort, which is located right next to the sea, is today a major tourist location. The view of the sea from the backdrop of the fort is very beautiful. Today, a beautiful beach park has been set up under the Tourism Department at a place called Pallikkara near the fort. In addition, there are many private resorts near Bekal to provide accommodation facilities for tourists. Today, Bekal is one of the major destination wedding centers in Kerala.
