St. Angelo Fort or Kannur Fort – Kannur Fort

St. Angelo Fort or Kannur Fort is a historic European-built temple located on the shores of the Arabian Sea, near the city of Kannur. This temple was built in 1505 by the Portuguese Viceroy Dom Francisco Almeida. At that time, Kannur Fort was a very important center for trade and defense. Later, the Dutch and the British became the heirs of this fort.

The view of the Arabian Sea from the top of the fort is very beautiful. This view becomes even more beautiful during sunset. Inside the fort, an ancient lighthouse and the remains of buildings from the Portuguese and later British eras can be seen. The walls of this triangular-shaped fort are built like a hill.
