Pulyoor Kali Theyam is a Theyam belonging to the group of divine animal forms.
In the past, Parvati and Paramashiva took birth as a tiger and lived on earth as a couple. The names of the animal couple were Pulikandan and Pulikaringali. A cave was made under the Tatanar stone in the Tulu forest and the tiger couple stayed in it. Pulikandan and Pulikkarinkali gave birth to six tiger cubs. Puliyur Kali is the only female tiger god among six tiger cubs. Others are the male tiger deities Kandapuli, Marapuli, Kalapuli, Puli Maruthan and Puliyur Kannan.
