Kannikkoru Makan

Theyam, Kannikkorumakan (Son of virgin), belongs to the group of forrest Gods. Kannikkorumakan Theyam is performed to the story of the archer who lived. Kannikkorumakan Theyyam is also known as Manicheri God and Vaidyanathan Dhanvanthari God.

A girl named Akkam who was the sister of the king of Pithruwadi Kota was kidnapped by robbers at a young age to get the jewels. But the smart girl escaped from the robbers and later reached Kotak. As an orphan, without any help, the girl grew up to be a great devotee of Shiva.

The maiden, who lived alone, prayed to Lord Shiva for a child. Mahadeva, pleased with the maiden’s prayer, blessed the maiden with a son and incarnated the pregnancy on a black stone. Later that black stone split and a son was born, and that son is a Kannikkorumakan. That boy, who was called Vakkathur Kelu, was very clever in all the arts. As soon as he entered adolescence, the boy turned into a perfect warrior.

When he grew up, he came to know from his mother that he was the nephew of the King of Pitruwadi Fort. He went to Pitruwadi Fort. As a sign of departure, mother gave him a coral necklace. His uncle did not recognize him when he reached Pitru wadi Kottai and had a fight with his uncle. When the son-in-law won the battle and showed the sign, the uncle realized that his sister’s son had come. Later he was crowned as the king of Pitruwadi Kota.

Thus, this son born to a virgin is performed in the Malanad as Kannikkorumakan Theyyam.
