The temple where Kalichan Theyyam performed is called Kalichamaram. Kalichan Oot is the main function of Kalichamaram. Kalichan oot is a ceremony where rice is collected from the nearby houses and brought to the Kalichamaram and from there it is cooked and brought to every house as an offering. Kalichan Oot functions are performed by the people belonging to Maniyani community.
It is believed that Kalichan Theyyam is residing on the top of the wormwood tree. In ancient times, it is customary to offer nivedya to the Kalichamaram as a vow in case of loss of cattle.
Kalichan Theyyam is tied by people belonging to the Vannan community. The costume of Kalichan Theyyam, consisting of bow and arrow, resembles the Wayanat Kulavan Theiyat. Wayanat Kulavan Theiyat’s light is the same as Kalichan who accompanies Theyyam.
