Kakkara Bhagavathy is a Rudra deity who was born from the three eyes of Lord Parameswara to kill Darikasura. The Aruda location of this Bhagwati is Kakkarakao in Kakkara district of Kannur district. Kakakara Bhagavathy is also known as Kalkura Bhagavathy.
Kakkara Bhagavathy, who had completed her incarnation, then drank Kalakat Illattu Kuti and became the embodiment of the Mantra of Kalakat Tantri. One day, when a baby in Kalakadu Illam was crying non-stop, the family members asked if there was anyone to take this baby, but when they came, they asked if there was no one to bury this baby. When the Lord asked that, the child died in a moment. Saying that the cause of the child’s death was Kakkara Bhagwati, His Holiness took Kakkara Bhagwati’s sword and threw it into the river. The sword poured through the river was later seen by Nampuri of the garden Illum and the divinely resplendent sword was enshrined in Kakkara Kavi, thus the goddess got the name Kakkara Bhagavati.
Kakkara Bhagavathy is known by various names like Mampalli Bhagavathy, Karat Bhagavathy, Chekicheri Bhagavathy, Koi Kulangara Bhagavathy, Dhulianga Bhagavathy and Arumbally Bhagavathy. Kakkara Bhagavati, who descends with a ball of fire around her hair in a circle and in front of her clothes, is the very form of Kali.
